VideoCore how-to · 0.5 · How VideoCore measures

Why a new video gets no verdict yet

A video under two days old shows no multiple in Lens, and for its first fourteen days only a provisional pace. That is deliberate: a count that is still moving cannot be compared with counts that have stopped.

A new upload has no badge

The one-day-old upload at the top of these results carries no multiple while every settled video does. Under two days, Lens says New: early views are arithmetic, not a signal.

Settled videos do

From two to fourteen days a grey, provisional pace sits beside the video, measured against the same channel's uploads at the same age. It never replaces the multiple; after that the badge is final.

Young videos are compared by age inside VideoCore

For your own channel, VideoCore compares a young video with what the channel's other videos had at the same age, never with their lifetime totals.

Why it works this way

A number that is still moving cannot be compared with numbers that have stopped; waiting, or matching by age, is the only comparison that means anything.
