This policy applies to the VideoCore YouTube Transcript Downloader browser extension, published by VideoCore (videocore.uk). It does not cover VideoCore Lens, which signs you in and talks to our servers — see the VideoCore Lens privacy policy.
www.youtube.com host permission): the transcript panel
YouTube has rendered for you. In bulk mode it moves your tab through the videos of a playlist, your Watch Later
or a channel page — visibly, under your control, and cancellable at any time — and reads each page the same
way. The transcript goes to your clipboard or your downloads folder and nowhere else.storage permission: your settings (timestamp choice, the usage-counts switch), the
progress and results of a bulk run, the quotes you choose to save, the day's tally of usage counts before it is
sent, and whether you have dismissed the one-time review prompt. From version 2.2: the transcripts you choose to
keep in the Library (about 8 MB), a note of which videos you have put a comment draft into (one per video, ten a
day), and your tidy-text choice. This stays in your browser; saved quotes can be deleted one by one or all at
once from the Quotes tab, and the Library can be cleared from its tab.At most every six hours the extension sends one small request to videocore.uk/api/ext_events.php
for each UTC day it holds counts for. The request contains only:

stalled), which version of YouTube's transcript panel answered (layout_*), how the bulk
collector went, and whether the link to VideoCore Lens was clicked.Never included: the video, its address or id, the channel, the transcript or any text from the page, any identifier of you or your install, your IP address, or a cookie (the request is sent without credentials, and the server starts no session and sets no cookie). The server keeps the counts as totals per day and version; it cannot tell one person's counts from another's. To stop floods it holds a one-way, daily-changing hash of the network address for one hour; that hash is never stored with any count.
Why: the extension reads YouTube's own transcript panel, which YouTube changes without notice. A sudden rise in "did not load" counts is how we find out within a day instead of from reviews. Totals also tell us which features are used, so we spend our time on those.
Open the extension's popup and untick Share anonymous usage counts. From that moment nothing is counted or sent, and any tally the extension was holding is deleted. Uninstalling removes everything the extension stored.
Panels include ordinary links to pages on videocore.uk and to the VideoCore Lens listing. Nothing is sent unless
you click one; opening one carries a standard utm tag saying the visit came from the extension, and no
identifier of you.
If a future version changes any of the above, this page is updated first and the change is described in plain words in the extension's changelog and on the What's new page.
